Aloha Fest., San Francisco, 2010

This morning we spent a few hours in San Francisco’s Park Presidio, at the 16th Annual Aloha Festival. A couple years ago, we were also here for the first time.  My daughter and her dance group, Merahi O Tehani, participated and performed at the festival.  This year festival’s crowd didn’t seem to be as big as the one we attended in the past.  Maybe the weather had something to do with the seemingly lower attendance.   It was so cold and wet (misty) all day we were there. The kids were performing really well, as usual.  Please enjoy the complete photo album:

Hayward La Honda Music Camp – Concerts Day

Junior concert band

Today we went back to the camp ground. Today is the last day of camp and the campers show cased what they had learned at camp. The concerts was scheduled to start at 12:45pm but we went early so we could find a good spot to watch the kids performing. The stage is named “The Duke Campagna Music Shell”. In front of it there’s a lawn area where parents can sit and watch. Parents were told to bring folding chairs or picnic blankets. We did packed lunch with us and so did everyone else.  The entire performance lasted about 3 hours.

Hayward La Honda Music Camp

The Hayward La-Honda Music Camp is organized to challenge students in a variety of creative pursuits and is devoted to the development of musicianship for students grades 6-12. This is accomplished through a program of study, concentrated rehearsal, performance, recreation and general camp life.”  That’s a quote from the music camp’s own web site ( My daughter, however, was not going to this music camp only for the music developmental purpose.  She wanted to go to have fun and to enjoy meeting new friends.  She was looking forward to the other  extra activities around camp, such as, horse back riding, zip lining, kayaking, etc.

Happy Eid Al Fitri 1430H

As we passed the Holy Ramadhan to purify the deepest soul,it is time to emabrace the triumph with all forgiveness and happiness.  Happy Eid Al Fitri.

Today we went to Fort Mason in San Francisco.  Sholat (prayer) for Eid took place in Golden Gate Room.  Leading the prayer was Ustadz Adi while the preach was given by Dr. KH Atabik Lutfi.  After Sholat, everybody rushed to the residence of Indonesian Consul, Wisma Indonesia, on Scott Street for Halal Bil Halal. A gathering to celebrate the day and to feast on traditional Eid Al Fitri dishes.

Complete pictures are posted in the Idul Fitri 1430H album.

A night at the drive inn theater

Still spring break for the little one.  Yesterday evening we took the kids to watch movies at the Capitol Drive Inn Theater in San Jose.  This is the last surviving drive inn theater in our area, may be even in the region.  This place also is a public (flea) markets during the day (Fri-Sun),  Kids under 11 can watch free.  $6.75/adult.  We watched two movies.  The first one is Hanna Montana the Movie and the second one is Race to Witch Mountain.  Obviously, the first movie is not for us the parents 😉  Race to Witch Mountain with The Rock is not too bad.
